PN Soccer Families:
Winter Fitness and Weight Training is right around the corner. We are starting this coming Monday, December 1st. The coaching staff will be available to assist at each session. Any 9-12th grade student interested in playing Women’s Soccer this spring is welcome to attend. The weekly schedule for weight training will be as follows:
Days: M, W, TH: 5pm-615pm,
Location: PNHS Weight Room
What to Bring:
*Athletic clothing and athletic shoes
*Willingness to learn, work hard, and become stronger
On Monday, I will provide more detailed information in regards to the specifics of the training plan. I will also collect contact information for each student-athlete in attendance. There is no cost.
1. Participation does NOT guarantee you a spot on a PN Women’s Soccer Team. Participation will, however, improve your chances of being on a team!
2. Do not attend if you don’t plan to work hard.
3. While I cannot technically mandate player attendance, I would strongly advise that players interested in improving strength and fitness will be in attendance!
4. Consistent attendance is important. I will be available to speak to athletes about their attendance issues.
The schedule for fitness and weight training may change slightly over the Holiday Break. More information on this later. Contact me with questions or concerns.
Tough loss for the Lady Huskies 1-0. A suspect goal at 1:30 into the game was the difference.
Portage Northern coach Todd Wells said he was still proud of the result.
“We forced the best of them, which is great for our girls,” he said. “Our schedule is not weak — so for us, it’s an honor to keep a strong schedule. We’ve lost five 1-0 games, and a lot of those games were against good teams.”
Wednesday’s May 7, 2014 home game versus Mattawan is Youth night. One of the things we are doing is taking donations for Crayons 4 Kids, so hopefully everyone can plan to bring crayons and/or coloring books as a donation. . They accept any new crayon type items and/or coloring or activity books. This cause was started by 2 Portage Northern students so it is another great way to support our school and its students.

Some neat soccer news.
Yes, a tournament to commemorate the centennial of an organization comprised exclusively of South American nations is taking place in the United States! Of America! This is great news for American soccer. This is amazing news for American soccer. This is everything we could have asked for…for American soccer. U.S. Soccer is finally getting a chance to compete on the biggest stage, on our turf. It needs to make this opportunity count, in 2016 and every tournament after.
Portage loses a close one 0 – 1 against St Joseph.
St. Joseph’s Jodie Kirschner scored a goal in the 24th minute of the second half, the only goal of the game, to give the Bears a 1-0 victory over visiting Portage Northern on Wednesday.
Kirschner’s goal came off a corner kick. The ball was played into a scrum, and bounced off Kirschner’s shinguard and into the goal for the game-winner.
Portage Northern goalie Liz Kimmel made nine saves to keep the game close.
“It was one of those rainy-night, muddy goals that happen sometimes,” Portage Northern coach Todd Wells said. “They controlled the first half, but I thought we had the run of play in the second.
“The shots were pretty even, and it was just a great battle.”
